Helfrecht to Join ODC Nimbus

Industry veteran Gary Helfrecht will join ODC Nimbus as Director of Sales, starting September 1, 2006.  In his new position, Helfrecht will oversee all sales activities in Europe and the Americas and will focus on the promotion of the new ODC Nimbus High Density LBR for HD-DVD and BD mastering.

Helfrecht commented, “I am very excited about this new challenge. 16 years ago, I started my career in the optical disc industry with Nimbus and the opportunity to rejoin that company and work again with former colleagues is very special.”  He continued, “The emergence of the new Next-Gen DVD formats duplicate the introduction of DVD in that it remains critical to control the mastering process.  Everything downstream depends on a good master making a good stamper making a good replicate.  A proven, reliable mastering system is a prerequisite to the success of any format and the combination of ODC and Nimbus technologies has delivered that system for the HD-DVD and BD formats.

It should be noted that in the mid 90’s, Nimbus developed their UV LBR in conjunction with WAMO and Toshiba, co-developers of the SD format, a forerunner of the current DVD standard.  The new ODC Nimbus High Density LBR combines patented Nimbus translation mechanics with ODC’s proprietary high density dye-polymers and the DRAW (Direct Read After Write) LBR control system.

Helfrecht joined Nimbus Manufacturing in 1990 as CEO of one of the first independent CD replicators in the USA.  After the sale of the Nimbus replication facilities in1993, he joined Nimbus Technology and Engineering, serving as Director, Sales and Marketing, until 2002, when he became President of Gima Advanced Technology, the USA branch of the Italian manufacturer of CD and DVD automated packaging systems.  Most recently, Helfrecht worked with Anwell Technologies, the Chinese manufacturer of replication lines, helping to raise that company’s profile and make their initial sales in America.
