Having been acquired by Dubilier & Co.
in early 2004, Optical Disc Corporation has now
acquired the mastering activities of Unaxis Nimbus
Limited.
The combined entity will change
its name to ODC Nimbus.
With three global offices, the new company will
be responsible for the support of all current
ODC customers as well as all Nimbus offline and
Pi equipment.
In addition, an agreement has been
reached with the original founders of Nimbus,
- Gerald Reynolds, Dr. Jonathan Halliday, Adrian
Farmer and Antony Smith, - to secure their long-term
commitment to both the technical and commercial
rebirth of the company.
This acquisition brings together
two formerly competitive technologies; ODC the
original developer of dye-polymer based, DRAW
(Direct Read After Write) mastering, and Nimbus
a long-time supporter of the photoresist mastering
method. The companies anticipate that they will
maintain their existing product ranges, and fully
exploit the opportunity arising from the union
of these different but complimentary technologies.
The pooling of both companies R&D experience
will result in a team of unrivalled expertise.
Their primary objective will be the development
of a mastering system for the next generation
of high-density optical disc products (Blu-ray
/ HD-DVD).
Tony Holden, ODC Nimbus Chief Operating
Officer: “Owning two mastering companies
with complimentary technology and such depth
of experience presents many exciting possibilities.
The chance to integrate the knowledge and new
ideas of the original founders of Nimbus Technology
into this already exciting mix is an unprecedented
opportunity within the industry. I expect great
things of this relationship.”
Adrian Farmer, Director of Sales & Marketing,
ODC Nimbus, UK: “It’s good to be
back. We have unfinished business in the optical
disc industry. The opportunity presented to us
by Dubilier & Co. and ODC is a truly unique
one. In combination we have a powerful technology
base from which we can jointly bring to fruition
mastering concepts for the next generation of
formats. We greatly look forward to re-establishing
personal contact with our customers and once
again providing them with the highest level of
service and technology support.”
