Mastering the Next Generation
of Optical Media and Beyond
With the rapidly maturing blue-violet diode laser
technology, the optical disc format developers
are now underway of bringing the next generation
of optical disc players and media to market. These
formats, including Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD, all
impose significantly more stringent requirements
on the mastering equipment and associated processes
as compared to current DVD format. Specifically,
the two most critical factors are the ability to
very precisely make small features (about half
the size of that of the DVD format) and accurately
position these features onto a master is crucial
to achieve a production worthy system and process.
With the combined and unrivaled expertise, ODC
Nimbus is now uniquely positioned to provide the
industry with the ultimate mastering equipment
and process solutions for the next generation optical
media. The extensive development undertaken by
Optical Disc Corporation over the recent years
in recording layer materials and processes has
resulted in patented High-Resolution Dye-Polymer
technology. Not only does this “super-resolution” technology
enable next generation mastering using standard
blue diode and UV lasers, but it also preserves
the DRAW Mastering capability for
precise process control. In a corresponding way,
the patented and proven Nimbus translation mechanism
assures a robust and maintenance free performance
for positioning the features onto the master. Thus,
with the comprehensive knowledge and ownership
of these crucial two technologies and associated
process expertise, ODC Nimbus is ready to offer
unmatched performance for the next generation mastering
equipment.
In addition to dedicated high density capable
mastering equipment and processes, ODC Nimbus will
offer upgrade paths to ODC LaserWave II and Nimbus
LBR products.
